The best performance of carbon fiber is that its specific strength and specific modulus exceed that of ordinary reinforcing fibers. The specific strength and specific modulus of the composite material formed by it and resin are about 3 times higher than that of steel and aluminum alloy. Carbon fiber composite materials are used in aerospace, missiles and sports equipment, which can significantly reduce weight, increase payload, and improve performance, and are important structural materials in the aerospace industry.
1. Physical properties:
1. Low density, light weight and high specific strength. The density of carbon fiber is 1.5~2g/cm3, which is equivalent to 1/4 of the density of steel and 1/2 of the density of aluminum alloy. Its specific strength is 16 times larger than that of steel, and 12 times larger than that of aluminum alloys.
2. High strength. Its tensile strength can reach 3000~4000MPa, its elasticity is 4~5 times larger than that of steel, and 6~7 times larger than that of aluminum.
3. It has anisotropy, the thermal expansion coefficient is small, the thermal conductivity decreases with the increase of temperature, and it is resistant to sudden cooling and heat, and it will not burst even if it suddenly drops from a high temperature of several thousand degrees to normal temperature.
4. Good electrical conductivity, high modulus fiber is 775μΩ/cm at 25℃, and high strength fiber is 1500μΩ/cm.
5. Good resistance to high temperature and low temperature. Carbon fiber can be used at 2000°C, and will not melt or soften in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at 3000°C. At a low temperature of -180°C, steel becomes brittle than glass, while carbon fiber is still soft and not brittle.
6. Poor impact resistance and easy damage. (Carbon fiber composite materials are tensile and puncture resistant, and carbon fiber products should not be touched by sharp pebbles or sharp objects in life to prevent rupture).
2. Chemical properties:
1. It has good acid resistance, is inert to acid, and can resist the erosion of concentrated hydrochloric acid, phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, benzene, acetone and other media. When carbon fibers are placed in 50% concentration of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid, their elastic modulus, strength and diameter have basically no change after 200 days; they slightly expand in 50% concentration of nitric acid, and their corrosion resistance exceeds that of gold and platinum.
2. In addition, it has the characteristics of oil resistance, radiation resistance, radiation resistance, absorption of toxic gases and deceleration of neutrons.
3. Oxidation occurs under the action of strong acid, and metal carbonization, carburization and electrochemical corrosion will occur when it is combined with metal. Therefore, carbon fibers must be surface treated before use.
